As a child, Chad was raised and baptized Roman Catholic, but had never heard a clear presentation of the gospel. He was 17 when He met Cynthia and they began attending Woodlawn Baptist Church where they were saved and baptized under the preaching of Dr. Ron Fenwick. Chad graduated from Chesapeake Baptist College under Dr. Barney Lyon. After serving Pastor Fenwick for 7 years as his assistant, then under Pastor Tyson for 2 years, God deeply burdened his heart for the Dominican.
Cynthia's Testimony
Cynthia began riding a bus to Woodlawn Baptist Church when she was three years old. Every week she earned about Jesus and about how much he loved her. Week after week she heard the gospel preached and week after week she remembers asking Jesus to come into her heart to save her. When she was a teenager, she met Chad in high school and they began coming to church together. Sitting under the preaching of Dr. Ron Fenwick, Cynthia gained the assurance of her salvation. It wasn't too long before God began greatly convicting her and she gave her life to the Lord and surrendered to do whatever He would have her to do.
About Them
Chad and Cynthia have had the great privilege of serving the Lord at Woodlawn Baptist Church, under Dr. Ron Fenwick, since 1997. Shortly after Chad's conversion, they began working in the bus ministry under the assistant pastor (and now missionary to England) Steve Messersmith. They learned a great deal about children's ministry and developed an unquenchable desire to serve God during those early years of ministry. Since then, they have served in Woodlawn's baseball ministry, teen ministries, printing ministries, discipleship classes, and in the Spanish ministry. In all of these ministries, God had allowed them to work with Spanish-speaking people, and has burdened their hearts for them. They have both worked in Woodlawn Baptist Academy; and Chad taught a few years in our Woodlawn's Bible Institute.
In 2003, Pastor Dr. Ron Fenwick, asked Chad to come on staff full-time as his assistant. His primary responsibility as assistant pastor was daily door-to-door soul-winning. It was his life's greatest privilege to be able to serve the Lord under this spiritual giant. Chad believes that God gave them the opportunity to serve in such a variety of ministries to help prepare them to reach the people of the Dominican Republic.
